Hello! I’m Kayci.

Kayci Williams, MSW, LSW (she/her)

Therapist & Licensed Social Worker in Colorado Springs, CO

Sometimes the experience itself ends, but the impact doesn’t. You may know logically that you’re safe now, that it’s over, or that you “should” be able to move forward, while another part of you is still reacting as if it could happen again. Trauma can change the way you trust, the way you connect with
people, the way you see yourself, and even the way you make sense of everyday interactions. You might find yourself questioning your own reactions, replaying things you wish you could forget, or wondering why something that happened in the past still has so much influence over the present.

Trauma doesn’t always look like someone falling apart. You may still go to work, care for the people you love, laugh, make plans, and handle everything that needs to get done. You might be so good at pushing through that others have no idea how much effort it takes. Maybe you’ve even started measuring how well you’re doing by how much you can keep functioning. But surviving,
functioning, and actually feeling okay are three very different things.

You don’t have to come into therapy already knowing how to explain it all. You don’t have to decide whether what happened was “bad enough,” find the right label for what you’re feeling, or make your story easier for someone else to understand. You can be angry, miss parts of the life you had before, feel confused by your reactions, have conflicting feelings about people, or not know what you feel at all. There is room for the parts of your experience that are complicated, uncomfortable, or still unfinished. What happened to you matters, but it does not get to own the rest of your story. My goal is to help you understand what you’ve been carrying, make sense of the ways
you learned to survive, and begin figuring out who you want to be once survival no longer takes up so much space.

My Approach – Therapist in Colorado Springs, CO

I believe therapy works best when you feel understood, respected, and involved in your own care. You know your life better than I ever could, so I see therapy as something we build together. I’ll bring clinical knowledge, curiosity, and honesty into the room, but you get a say in where we go, what we focus on, and what feels helpful.

My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I want to understand not just what’s difficult for you now, but how the patterns or ways of coping that once helped you feel safe or protected might be affecting you today. Sometimes that means
slowing things down and building safety or coping skills first. Other times, it means looking more closely at painful beliefs, patterns, or experiences that still take up more space in your life than you want them to. While it’s important to use evidence-based approaches, I also want to honor where you are, your individual needs, and your autonomy throughout the process.

I have experience using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) informed interventions, including work around trauma-related beliefs, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, grounding, and coping. I also draw from strengths-based and client-centered approaches and pursue continued education in trauma treatment. I don’t believe one approach works for every person, and I want the work we do together to make sense for you.

    A Little About Me!

I’m an Army veteran, wife, and pretty committed homebody. I’m naturally introverted, which is a little ironic considering I talk to people for a living, and I’m happy with a quiet evening, a good
book, coffee, and anything cozy. I tend to overthink and take myself a little too seriously sometimes, so my husband usually supplies the comic relief. I’m pretty straightforward by nature and appreciate honesty, humor, and people who are comfortable being themselves. I also share my home with three dogs and two cats, so even as a homebody, life is rarely boring.
